"PRECIOUS POSSESSIONS" COMING APRIL 10

Philbrook’s Starr collection of portrait miniatures forms the basis for this focused look at the rarified genre of the portrait miniature. Much more than simple likenesses, these complex and exquisite objects were worn as jewelry, exchanged as gifts and lover’s tokens, and created to commemorate departed loved ones. Full scale portraits, satirical prints and sentimental literature of the period will be included in the exhibition and will help illuminate the art and culture behind the portrait miniature.

TROUBLE IN TAHITI: Tulsa Opera @Philbrook
In a special one-time performance, Philbrook and Tulsa Opera team up for a lively look at marriage and suburbia in Leonard Bernstein’s one-act opera Trouble in Tahiti. Staged in conjunction with American Streamlined Design: The World of Tomorrow, this performance is set amid a seemingly idyllic suburban backdrop and depicts a day in the unhappy life of a young couple (allegedly based on Bernstein's own parents). Bernstein's musical style is instantly recognizable, jazzy, and uniquely American. Don’t miss this provocative performance featuring Tulsa Opera studio artists with an introduction by Tulsa Opera's Artistic Director Kostis Protopapas.
