The Man in Black, c. 1836 and Woman with Bible, c. 1836
These two pieces were painted by the same artist (Sheldon Peck) in 1836. 173 years ago. But as you can see, the quality of the woman doesn't exactly match that of the man.
WHY?
Well, The Man in Black has just returned to us from trip to Chicago where it was brought back to life by conservator Barry Bauman. Mr. Bauman was formerly the Associate Conservator of Paintings for the Art Institute of Chicago and the founder and owner of the Chicago Conservation Center. In 2003, Bauman left the private sector and now offers complimentary conservation services to museums and non-profit organizations.
